A relaxed and revolutionary daytime performance space in Exeter designed to amplify artists and voices of parents.
Join Lizzy Humber and Eleanor Viola Spencer for a sharing of local parents and grandparents sharing original songs, poetry and stand up. There will be an exciting headline poetry set from the Bard of Exeter, poet and father, Kev Payne.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy this uplifting daytime performance platform. This is a relaxed and lively space for grown-ups but children are welcome and supported to be themselves, no shhing required. Content is adult centred, sometimes this can include strong language and adult themes. We find younger children tend not to notice as they are too busy playing, but we offer content warnings before each sharing so you can choose what’s right for you and any accompanying children.
Expect an uplifting, supportive and empowering gig– in the middle of the day! So whether you’re in need of a bit of culture, a joyful community or just an early lunch break – you are welcome!
HEADLINER:
Kev Payne is an author, illustrator and poet from Devon. He was a primary school teacher for seventeen years and still loves working with children to develop their skills and love of words. Kev enjoys playing with ideas and is passionate about the impact stories and poetry can have on all ages. He has been a World Book Day author and is the current Bard of Exeter!
“There is an alternative to soft play?!?! For a long while with my own children there was only one side of Devon that I saw centred around parks, slides and snacks. ‘Parents on the Mic’ shows there is still the chance to loosen the label of ‘parent’ for a while and become the wonderful, creative ‘you’ again. What a glorious way to celebrate creativity and connection - all while the little ones get to be part of the fun too! ”
